AIMING FIT

I know I am saying this on behalf of at least 95% of the women if not more that we hate exercising. I cannot confirm which species the rest of the 5% of the women belong to but I can definitely not identify with them on any level ( they are probably worse than the women who eat everything and still stay naturally thin). When Marya literally health-shamed me into joining AIMFIT with her, I knew none of that was going to change but it did. One month later, I am not only over my fear of falling on my face during a workout class but that pair of jeans sitting in my closet since the start of last year has actually started to fit me.

The plan was simple. I got an unlimited class pass, made an unbreakable pact with Marya to not miss classes when sore muscles and busy work schedule shit on my spirit and to only slightly modify my diet. Here’s what we have collectively discovered about each of the classes we took at AIMFIT.

DANCEFIT

As a cardio-phobe, this sounded like a nightmare. It took about three to four classes to not focus on what felt like a cardiac arrest and start enjoying the sick moves being thrown to my favourite Bollywood tracks (including Malhari, Lets Nacho, Nagada). Once I built up my stamina, I was hooked to the class. The trainers are super fun, have energy that is not possible for a normal human to posses, they will be singing along to the songs and sometimes call you out if you are just chilling at the back of the class (I’m looking at you, Laila!). If you are even partially committed to fitness, I can bet you will go back for DANCEFIT.

LIFT

Most people will freak out at the sight of twenty women lifting heavy weights and just generally being badass but LIFT has to be our favourite class out of all. It is great for building strength and muscle and is slow paced yet extremely effective. A problem that newbies might face is getting the posture right for each exercise which is super important in this class but don’t be afraid to ask for help from the instructors. Maria, who also happens to be both our favourite instructor at AIMFIT, does explain each movement in detail to avoid injuries and somehow keeps the class quite fun and energetic without screaming in your face. If there is one class you take at AIMFIT, let it be this one.

Also, ladies, please don’t be afraid of taking this class because you have always been told that lifting weights will make you bulk up. It is NOT true.

BODYBLAST

Bodyblast (unfortunately) lives up to its name. It does what it says it will do- blast your body fat with high intensity cardio and strength training. Bodyblast is DANCEFIT on steroids if the steroids were also on steroids. Marya feels like it is great for the days when she is angry or really wants to sweat it out or just feels fat and bloated (we all have those days).  I happen to agree. This one is for cardiofreaks for sure. If you can keep up with this class without stopping, you’re probably Hugh Jackman.

YOGAFLOW

Okay, I did not expect this to hurt. But I suppose anything that required me to use any muscle in my body would hurt (thanks to years of in-activeness). It is a calm, slow paced class that I suggest you take once at the end of each week.  A healthy mix of yoga and strength training (balancing yourself on one leg is involved), this might not interest the ‘yoga purists’ or those of you who only do yoga because you want a picture of yourself on Instagram doing a handstand (you’re gonna be disappointed). Do stay for the meditation at the end of the class. Its our favourite part of the class and Sobia’s voice is amazingly soothing.

COMBOFIT

Combofit is a great balanced workout for beginners and intermediaries. Having done HIIT for a year, Marya found this class a little less intense but therefore easier to keep up with on regular basis (lesser chances of crashing & burning). Noor is such a fun, genuine person with insane energy levels and knows so much about fitness (a girl who tells us we can, aesthetically speaking, skip cardio we respect!), you will just enjoy being in her class as much as you might enjoy the workout itself. That one lunge+boxing track is a total knockout!

AIMFIT, located at DHA Y block and Main Garden Town, offers classes in the morning and evening making it really convenient for you to set your own workout schedule. If that is not enough, you can also book classes you want to take in advance online (we do miss being able to book classes through their app though).  You can combine any of the above mentioned classes to suit your fitness goals, may it be weight loss, toning and shaping or just building strengthen and stamina.  Overall, we love the AIMFIT experience.

I might not have abs yet, but being at AIMFIT is the closest I have come to thinking that I might be able to have them somewhere is the near future which is more than I can say for any of the workouts I have tried before. AIMFIT is the answer to all your (fitness) prayers.

All pricing, schedule and related details can be found at iaimfit.com or call at: 0334-iaimfit.

Disclaimer: Be sure to check with your doctor before starting any exercise if you have a medical condition, are pregnant or injured.
